Our History
A Small Beginning with a Greater Purpose
Roaring Wind began with two people, a shared faith, and a desire to tell others about the goodness of God. Co-founders Hershel Wilder and Pamela Sharrock believed that amid the discouragement of everyday life, people needed a place for truth, hope, encouragement, and faith. From that conviction, Roaring Wind Tribune—known as the “Good News” Newspaper—was born. What began as a humble effort became a labor of love, sharing stories of faith, celebrating ordinary people doing extraordinary good, and reminding readers that God was at work in the world around them.
The Printed Years
Before Roaring Wind became a digital publication, it was produced and distributed as a printed community newspaper. Its pages brought together devotionals, testimonies, church and community stories, inspirational articles, photographs, and messages of hope. Pastors, writers, ministry leaders, community members, and friends generously contributed their voices and experiences. More than simply reporting events, Roaring Wind told the stories of the people behind them—their journeys, struggles, victories, and faith.
More Than a Newspaper
Roaring Wind became a connection point between churches, ministries, families, writers, and readers—a place to share faith, tell stories, recognize the good happening in the community, and encourage one another.
Though the journey did not always unfold as expected, the heart of Roaring Wind remained unchanged:
To proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and look for the good that God is doing through ordinary people.
Even during the years when the newspaper was not regularly published, its purpose was never forgotten.
A New Chapter
Today, Roaring Wind is beginning a new chapter. What once arrived in the hands of readers as a printed community newspaper has returned as a digital publication—carrying the same heart and purpose into a new generation. Technology has changed the way Roaring Wind reaches its readers, but it has also opened doors that were not possible during the printed years. What began within a local community can now travel far beyond it. The format may be different, but the foundation remains the same.
